Krav Maga, also known as Israeli Close-Combat or Israeli Martial Arts, is a practical self-defense system originating from Israel. It was first developed in the 1930s by Imi Lichtenfeld to protect Jewish communities from violent attacks. Unlike traditional martial arts, Krav Maga emphasizes simplicity, efficiency, and real-world applicability. It focuses on neutralizing threats by targeting the body's vulnerable areas, allowing practitioners to quickly escape dangerous situations.
Initially, Imi Lichtenfeld taught this self-defense system in Czechoslovakia. Later, after moving to Palestine, he refined and formalized it within the Israel Defense Forces. Over time, Krav Maga evolved and adapted into specialized training systems for military, law enforcement, and civilian use. Today, it is widely recognized and practiced worldwide.
These features make Krav Maga an effective and practical self-defense method, providing individuals with quick and reliable protection against street violence and sudden threats.
